Hello! I’m Janice and I can’t remember not loving quilts. I’ve been actively quilting for over twenty years but some of my earliest memories are “quilting” with glue and fabric from the scrap bag of a family friend. I also cross stitch, knit, and crochet. Basically, if it is textile related, I’ve tried it!
By day I work for The Electric Quilt Company and by night I quilt and sew for fun!
My love of making quilts and needlework also extends to learning as much about the history of textile arts as I can. I turned that interest into advanced degrees in the history of women’s textile arts and folklore. Those have led to great opportunities to travel the world to do research and see some amazing textile art, which I am thrilled to share with you here!
I’m also a writer and and wrote the chapter on "Pieced Quilts" in the recent book from the International Quilt Museum, American Quilts in the Industrial Age, 1760-1870. I get a small commission if you purchase a copy of American Quilts in the Industrial Age through this Bookshop affiliate link.
You can also find my work published in Quilt Studies: The Journal of the British Quilt Study Group and in Issues o2, 03, and 04 of the Modern Quilt Guild's Modern Monthly.
I’d love to come to your group to give a lecture on quilt history and teach a class.
